Agenda, Attendee List, & Presentation files now available to Telecom Council members in the library.

The IoT Forum community is focused on discovering innovation, exchanging knowledge, growing professional networks, and above all building partnerships across the ecosystem. Participants from around the world convene in Silicon Valley each month to meet startups, see demos, review new products, listen to case studies, and introduce buyers to sellers - in highly efficient 1/2 day meetings. This month, our Buyer's Lunch will feature buyers from Asset Monitoring.

Silicon Valley, California, Sep 19 2017/Meeting Recap/Tremendous day of learning at the IoT Forum focused on Asset Tracking.  We heard from five compelling start-ups across different parts of the IoT ecosystem.  Cloudleaf offers a compelling sensor fabric that allows for asset tracking and monitoring throughout industrial workflows.  Seevider provides an intelligence parking solution based on locally processed image recognition that promises to provide smart cities services at a scale individual parking sensors will have trouble matching.  Pulzze Systems offers their Interactor product that simplifies the design and deployment of back end IoT intelligence and analytics.  Xceler is creating a neuromorphic intelligence stack that runs from silicon to software that leverages a graph architecture to create locally learning artificial intelligence systems that do not require the offline training investment of time and data other approaches to machine learning require.  IoT NxT delivers retrofit edge computing solutions to enable the adoption of Industrial IoT using their Raptor intelligence gateway.

In addition to the start-ups, several established firms also shared how their offerings are driving the growth of Asset Tracking and Monitoring within the Internet of Things market.  DataRPM shared their solution on predictive analytics, showing how their platform can rapidly react to unknown events that fall outside of traditional machine learning methods and save clients millions in preventable down time and accidents.  RoamBee, building on prior success in their own asset tracking solutions, shared a vision for carriers to be able to offer new, crowdsourced, location based services where all subscribers can help find your missing keys.  Keewi demonstrated their smart building command and control system that leverages the hardware of others to allow building owners and tenants alike manage their power usage.  Sigfox, the event sponsor, shared their vision of IoT and their place in the ecosystem as the premier long range, low power, low bandwidth connectivity provider.

During the case study and buyers panel, Sigfox customer, PECO Pallets updated attendees on their efforts to add location intelligence to their pallets that are rented across the consumer products value chain, from moving diapers to disk drives.  CIO Ken Chazotte shared his process for conceptualizing their approach, how he sold it to management, criteria for picking partners like Sigfox and more in a vibrant discussion with all the attendees.  Key takeaways from the conversation were that buyers, long term, were less focused on cost per asset than the overall value of implementation.  The cost of a single pallet is negligible but understand where there are holes in the network where pallets are leaking outside of PECO’s control is worth millions.  Hence PECO focused on the value of closing holes when looking at implementing IoT instead of the cost required to track each pallet, since honestly, they do not.  PECO usings a sample of pallets to poll their network and see where loss is occurring.  This value based approach receive high level executive buy-in and shifted what PECO considers to be their metrics of success in this ongoing project.

Join us in October when the IoT Forum focuses on Consumer IoT, the Smart Home.
