What about Google? Most tech companies found themselves asking this question as the last decade progressed. Google was either a threat or an opportunity, but was seldom a company to be ignored. Now that they are increasingly involved in telecom, both fixed and mobile, we are hearing more and more about them from the Telecom Council community. Who among us hasn't frequently heard one of these quotes:
- "… then we sell our service to Google"
- "… then we sell the company to Google"
- “Did you see that new Google beta?”
- or the ever-worrisome: "But what about Google?"
For better or worse, Google is an extremely important player in our markets. This meeting is not a presentation by Google, but an executive-level, interactive roundtable discussion on the impact of Google across fixed and wireless telecom. Our executive members will share their opinions on what the search giant is up to, what turf they might claim, and what areas will be best for partnership and M&A. While discussion is led by our in-house analyst, everyone is encouraged to add their insight to the discussion. Topics on the table include: the Google phone, Android, Google Voice, mobile apps, LBS, advertising, the economics of "free", and maybe even search.
Meeting note: The Telecom Council does not have a qualitative opinion on any company in the Telecom ecosystem, including Google. Group discourse is managed to stay strategic and productive with no confidential information solicited from participants. This discussion will reflect those already taking place in every boardroom and tradeshow lobby. About the Executive Forum: Executives from Telecom Council member companies gather quarterly over lunch for intimate, interactive discussions of the needs, technologies, and trends that are affecting their businesses. Executive Forum meetings, which are free for Telecom Council members, gather up to 40 senior-executives from across the telecom ecosystem and are open to C-level management in venture-funded startups and their large company colleagues. Non-member invited guests may also register for $200. If you meet the requirements of our Executive Forum and would like to be invited to these meetings, please send your credentials to email@example.com
